Interactive support to assist ongoing learning and development
This program of monthly support meetups for members is designed to encourage ongoing learning by providing a forum in which questions may be asked and assistance with studies can be provided. Members eligible to attend may ask any question on the subject areas they are studying, including on the course of which they are an alumnus, the online mini courses, and other research and learning materials provided in the public area and members area of the Clarkson ITT Wiki.
Members eligible to attend include:
- Alumni of our courses
- Amesthyst, Sapphire, Emerald and Ruby subscribers to The Learning HabITT
When and How Are They Run
- The sessions are run once a month, usually in the second week of the month.
Note: Time of day is chosen to allow the best match with time of day for members across Australia, NZ, the Pacific and Asia. Subject to demand, extra sessions may be offered at a time more convenient to Europe, Africa and the Americas. - The sessions have up to two hours allocated.
- They are run via Teams.
- Places are limited initially to avoid overloading.
- Any question can be asked in the session, subject to time available. Ideally we would like questions to be something that can be answered within 5 to 10 minutes.
- We are happy to take questions without notice. However, if you are having a specific issue with something that doesn't work or an exercise that is producing unexpected results, it may be better to open a support ticket, since the question may be too specific to a particular task.
How To Book
- The sessions are scheduled in the calendar and can also be seen in the full list here:Member Support Meetup Schedule
- Click on a session in the calendar or an entry in the list referenced above and fill out the booking form.
- There is no charge for the sessions, this is a new service we are extending to all our alumni and to higher level subscribers in the subscription program.
- Places are limited so bookings are essential. We will adjust the numbers based on the experience as the program rolls out.
What Questions May Be Asked
- Any questions related to the content of courses you have studied with us, or the content online, or content of the Sundowner Lecture Series if it is not clear to you is fair game..
- Generally, we will accept any question from any eligible member that can be answered in the available time, related to the use of Excel in areas such as:
- shortcuts and accelerators and the context menu
- functions, formulas, operators, dynamic array formulas
- formatting
- the use of tools and menu commands
- use of data tables
- tables and table referencing and formulas
- PivotTables Power Pivot, the Data Model, DAX formulas
- Power Query and data transformation
- charting and working with shapes and illustrations
- Generally, we will accept any question from any alumnus of the VBA courses that can be answered in the available time, related to the use of VBA in areas such as:
- understanding / working with the the Excel and Office object models
- the VBA language
- where to put and how to trigger code
- how to call external elements, such as Windows API functions, objects in other libraries
- working with controls in Excel, both Forms and ActiveX controls
- working with the Ribbon UI
We may restrict the depth of questions answered to those who have not studied VBA with us, but will try and be as supportive as possible. However, a participant who has poor training in the use of VBA and programming will quickly get bogged-down if we take a question on too advanced a subject. With our alumni of the VBA courses, we can rely upon the materials issued, a shared learning experience, and a shared methodology, naming conventions etc. We will answer simple questions, but if you lack the technical underpinnings and knowledge, it is unlikely we can answer the questions in the available time, without going down some rabbit holes to cover missing knowledge. We will cover any questions related to the short VBA code examples in the Wiki.
- Generally, we will accept questions from members related to the use of Power BI in areas such as:
- Power Query and the M language, creating and calling functions in M
- Power Pivot, the Data Model, KPIs and Measures and the DAX language
- 3D Mapping
- Power BI Desktop
- The questions should be amenable of an answer within a reasonable time frame, unless there are not many people online.
- But ask, we will answer if we can!
