The Name Box is the drop-down list at the beginning fo the formula bar that allows the user to navigate to and highlight a range that is referred to by a Defined Name or a s a fallback, to define a name to refer to the selected range. [click the link to see a screenshot showing where the Name Box is located] The Name Box allows the selection of an existing name that refers to a range. By default, only direct range definitions referred to by Defined Names will be listed. Those Names whose referenced ranges are defined by a dynamic expression are not listed. The Name Box can be used to define, but not edit the definition of a name. Select the desired range to be referenced then type the new Name into the Name Box. See the discussion of the rules for defining names elsewhere on this site. The screenshot below shows the location of the Name Box in the formula bar. It is resizable, and can be increased or reduced in size by hovering the cursor over the right-hand edge and when the double-headed arrow cursor is displayed, click and drag to resize it.
